Privacy

Your data. Your choices.

Nombli is a food diary app in development, maintained by Jonh Alex. This page explains how data is used in the app, on published diary pages and on this website. For questions or requests, write to jonh@jonhvmp.com.

What we use and why

Age, height and weight, when you enter them to get suggested goals, are used for that calculation and are not stored in your profile by Nombli. The goals you choose are linked to your account.

Apple and Google

Sign-in requests only basic identity information. It does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, contacts or calendar. The provider’s identifier links your entries to your account. Two accounts are not merged automatically because they share the same email address; linking another sign-in method requires signing in to the current account.

The availability of each provider depends on the service’s configuration and approval. See also Google’s Privacy Policy and Apple’s Privacy Policy.

How entries are processed

Our server uses OpenAI to interpret the content you send and to estimate foods, portions and nutrients. This processing may take place outside your country, depending on the provider’s infrastructure. The result is shown to you for review before it goes into your diary. See OpenAI’s Privacy Policy.

Product and barcode searches may query the collaborative Open Food Facts database. The query uses the search terms or code, without sending your Nombli account or your food history. Estimated values and third-party information may contain inaccuracies.

Storage and protection

Account and diary data are kept on Nombli's backend, so you can sign in on another device and find the same diary: your profile (including any body information you choose to add, such as height, weight, sex, date of birth, activity level, dietary preferences and allergies), meals and their photos, recipes, goals, review drafts, milestones, the list of signed-in devices and events about how you use the app. Files such as meal and label photos, the profile photo and exports are kept in private, encrypted storage and are only delivered through links that expire. Sessions use iOS secure storage. Entries not yet sent, copies of your meal photos and a cache of your history may be kept protected on the device so you can keep using the app. Nombli does not store any provider password.

A photo of a meal or label used to prepare an entry is kept with that meal, without its location data, until you delete the photo, the meal or your account. Audio recordings and uploads that do not become part of a saved entry are kept temporarily; with the current configuration, they expire after 24 hours and are removed by the cleanup routine. The transcription, extracted foods, descriptions, every saved version of your entries and app events remain in the account until they are deleted. Export archives are available for 7 days.

PDF diary and public page

In Profile › Privacy or Insights › Your diary, the app builds a PDF of your diary directly on your iPhone. The file only leaves the device if you share it.

If you tap Create my page, Nombli publishes a page with a link containing your full diary, just like the PDF: your name, profile photo, meals, foods, goals, statistics and the meal photos on the device. The PDF is available to download from the page.

Anyone with the link can view the page and download the PDF. The address is hard to guess and the page is marked so it does not appear in search engines, but anyone who receives the link can pass it on.

This website

This website is served from Nombli's own servers on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Its pages do not receive your food diary. Apart from the optional waiting list below, it has no sign-up forms, cookies, advertising trackers or analytics tools. The servers may process technical connection data, such as the IP address and browser, to deliver and protect the pages.

Waiting list

If you join the waiting list on this website, we keep the email address or phone number you give, the page language and your country, and, if you are a nutrition professional, your name, profession and clinic. We use this data only to tell you when Nombli is available and, for professionals, to invite you to open a clinic. This data is kept on Nombli's own servers, is not used for advertising or shared, and is deleted when you ask: write to jonh@jonhvmp.com.

Permissions under your control

Camera, microphone and notifications ask for permission on the iPhone. You can change these choices in the system Settings. Choosing photos uses the built-in picker, without requiring access to your whole library. Reminders are local notifications set up on the device.

Export, correct or delete

In the app, open Profile › Privacy › Export my records to get your diary as a PDF and a copy of the raw data in JSON. You can correct meals, recipes and profile information on their respective screens.

To remove your account, open Profile › Privacy › Delete account and data and confirm by typing DELETE. This removes the account and its associated records, including meals, recipes, the published page and the files kept by Nombli. It does not delete your Apple or Google account.

If you can’t access the app, ask for help by email at jonh@jonhvmp.com. We may ask for enough information to verify that the account is yours before carrying out the request.

Purpose of the service

Nombli helps you organise your food records. It does not provide medical diagnosis or prescriptions. We do not sell your food history or use it for advertising. If the way data is processed changes, this page will be updated and relevant changes will be communicated through the channels available in the service.
